Shirley Wilma Doisy

Monday, September 24, 2012. Shirley Wilma Doisy went to be with the Lord. She was a resident of Remington Park Retirement Community. Shirley was born January 3, 1927 in Hampton, Nebraska to Gustav and Renata Pohl. After graduating High School, Shirley attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln to be part of the war effort as a nurse in the Army Nursing Corps. The war ended before she could be activated. While attending classes she met Richard Doisy. They married and moved to Madison, Wisconsin where Richard completed his Medical residency. Shirley used her Nursing training while living in Wisconsin. They moved to Syracuse, New York where Dr. Richard Doisy took a position as Professor of Biochemistry at Syracuse University. Shirley was a nurse at Crouse-Hines Hospital until they adopted Alison in 1958. Shirley became a stay at home Mom and adopted David in 1960. Dr. Richard Doisy passed away in 1978 and Shirley went back to nursing at Crouse-Hines until she remarried Dr. Phillip Doisy in 1981 and moved to St. Louis where she became his office nurse. The Doisy name has a proud history. Dr. Edward Doisy is a Nobel Laureate having earned this prestigious award for Medicine and Research for isolating vitamin K. Dr. Phillip Doisy practiced until 1995 when he sold his practice and they retired together in Brentwood, Missouri. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; Gustav and Renata Pohl, Husband; Dr. Richard Doisy formerly of Syracuse, New York. Second husband; Dr. Phillip Doisy formerly of St. Louis, Missouri. Daughter; Alison Louise Vines formerly of Phoenix Arizona. Brother; Wallace Pohl formerly of Hampton, Nebraska. Shirley is survived by her son; David Richard Doisy and wife Jeannie, Mont Belvieu, Texas; one sister; Lois Brannon of Los Angeles, California. Shirley has four Grandsons’ she was very proud of. Matthew Vines of Phoenix, Arizona; David Doisy II, Justin Doisy and Nathan Doisy of Mont Belvieu, Texas. Shirley had the nurses loving touch and had numerous nieces and nephews along with a host of loving friends. When she was physically able she attended Glendale Lutheran Church where she was active and attended for 20 years. Visitation will be at Oak Hill Funeral Home at10301 Big Bend Rd, Saint Louis, MO on Friday evening, September 28 from 5-8 pm. Funeral service will be Saturday, September 29 at the same location at 11:00. Burial will follow immediately thereafter. Pastor Albers of Glendale Lutheran will be the Minister of the celebration of Miss Shirley’s life. PDF Printable Version
