Martha A. Pohl

Martha Pohl of Dittmer, Missouri peacefully passed away in her home surrounded by her loving family on June 2, 2015 due to cancer. She was 73 years old. Martha was born November 24, 1941 and was raised in Fredericktown, Missouri. She and her three siblings, Huey Vandergriff, Dorothy Hasty, and Harry Vandergriff were raised by their grandparents, Andrew and Cora Vandergriff. She graduated from Fredricktown High School. After meeting on a blind date, she married her husband of nearly 53 years, David Pohl, on September 8, 1962. They raised and loved five children. In 1980, Martha began her career as a Walmart associate, first setting up the newly constructed Walmart store in House Springs, Missouri, then continuing to hold several positions there until her retirement 26 years later, in 2006. Throughout her years there, she forged many very special, lifelong friendships with fellow associates. After her retirement, one of her most enjoyable past-times was the various outings taken with those dear friends. Upon retirement, Martha began volunteering her time to rehabilitate animals at the Wildlife Rehabilitation Clinic in High Ridge, Missouri. She was a valued volunteer and admired for her cool and calm demeanor handling and feeding all the various wild animals. The baby skunks were especially her favorites. There, too, Martha gained many warm and special friendships. Martha loved animals and people of all walks of life. She thoroughly enjoyed owning and riding horses and spoiling her dogs. She was a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan, even traveling with her husband to spring training to watch her beloved team play. Dave and Martha enjoyed traveling together and had the opportunity to take some incredible trips through the Eagle Bank. Martha cherished her family and couldn't pass up any opportunity to brag on them, especially about her grandchildren. Martha is survived by her husband, David Pohl, her five children: Greg Pohl, Tim Pohl, Tracy (Dino) Willis, Gary (Billie) Pohl, and Tiffany (Jeremy) Crowe; her nine grandchildren: Steven Pohl, Andrew Pohl, Chardais and Chris Nelson, Dyimon and Stephanie Bastien, Justin and Kriz-Ann Willis, Garrett Willis, Dylan Pohl, Erica Crowe and Bradyn Crowe; and her five great-grandchildren: Braydin, Chris, Jayden, Brady, Aiden; her brother: Huey and Rinda Vandergriff; her sister-in-law: Ida Vandergriff; her dog, Sunny, and her cat, Lizzie. She was predeceased in death by her sister, Dorothy Hasty and her brother, Harry Vandergriff; her in-laws, Charles and Rose Pohl; her favorite dog, Max, and favorite horse, Scout.
