James "Jim" L. Bowling

James L. Bowling “Jim” of Hillsboro, Missouri, was born August 23, 1934 in Perry County, Missouri to Henry and Bernice (nee Smith) Bowling and entered into rest Thursday, December 26, 2024 following a brief illness in Hillsboro, Missouri at the age of 90 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Bernice (nee Smith) Bowling; daughters, Gwendolyn D. Bowling and Beverly Wooten-Ray; siblings, Edward Bowling, Darrel Bowling, Katie Wright and Gretta Hensick. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jane (nee McNamara) Bowling; children, Brenda (Jeff) Smith, Curtis (Pam) Bowling, Lisa (David) Clifton, Kathy (Matt) Willingham, Jimmy (Kathy Guntli) Wooten, Tim (Stephanie) Wooten, Tricia (Keith) Curtis, Jerry (Stephanie) Wooten and Meaghan (Ken) Simmons; grandchildren, Dawn Taylor, Josh James, Heather White, Samantha Siedler, Elisha Vogt, Jennifer Pilousek, Maddi Underwood and Travis Clifton; siblings, Ray Bowling and Ann Williams; along with numerous other grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family and friends. Throughout his lifetime, Jim loved owning, riding, and showing horses. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was an avid reader. During his years of retirement, Jim spent a lot of time entertaining friends, family, and especially his grandchildren whom he cherished, fishing off the dock at his home. Jim was also a proud member of the Local 2214 Carpenter’s Union for over 40 years. Becoming a master carpenter gave him the ability to build several homes not only for himself, but also for many family members. Jim’s legacy will be cherished through his love for horses, hunting, fishing, carpentry, love for family, and all of the memories made throughout the years. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Gathering Room (DeSoto, MO), January 18, 2025, 3 pm – 6 pm. Jim selflessly donated his body to science at Saint Louis University; in lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to any of the following organizations, St. Louis University School of Medicine, ALS, Juvenile Diabetes, American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society.
