Silverstine N. Winters was born October 19, 1929, in Saint Louis, Missouri, to the union of John and Rose (nee Wagner) Nix. On December 5, 2021, Silverstine passed away in Florissant, MO. surrounded by family. Silverstine grew up in South St. Louis and graduated early from Vashon High School in 1947. She married her high school sweetheart, Sherman Winters, in 1948. She enjoyed working as an LPN nurse and later as a clerk for the St. Louis Public School System. She retired after 18 years of dedicated service. Silverstine served as a devoted Jehovah's Witnesses for many years and enjoyed visiting other Christian churches while living at St. Louis Hills Assisted Living Community and with her children. She loved traveling, reading, and having lunch on Saturday with her friends. Silverstine was most happy spending time with her family. Affectionately known as Granny, she spent countless hours during her vacation and retirement with her grandkids while helping better organize her children’s homes during her visit. Silverstine also loved listening to jazz music and dancing. She will be genuinely missed by all that knew her. Silverstine's parents, spouse Sherman Winters, daughter JoAnn Martin, and sister Delores J. Cross preceded her death.Four (4) daughters survive her; Valis Welch, Rose Ann (Benny) Milton, Rochelle Randolph and Shermane (Adam) Wofford, (4) sons; Keith (Lottie) Melton, Michael (Priscilla) Winters, Sherman Cain, and John Winters, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
