Russell, Joan Evelyn beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, of St. Louis, Missouri, born in Emerson, Iowa on April 25, 1934, passed away from natural causes July 31, 2020. She is survived by three daughters, Judy (Bill) Bray, Lou Ann (Steve) Forman, and Lois (Steve) Wood. Eight grandchildren: Michael Russell (Rachel), Mitchell (Andrea) Morley, Krista Bray (Jason), Brandon Bray (Mia), Joseph (Stephanie) Wood, Jacob Wood, Alexandra Veenker, Anthony (Kelsey) Collier. Fifteen great-grandchildren, and one great, great-grandchild. She is survived by brothers: Harley (Mary) Rogers, Jerry (Mattie) Rogers, and Jimmy Rogers. She was preceded in death by: beloved husband, Richard E. Russell; son, Paul R. Russell; parents, Clifford and Florence Rogers; brothers, Teddy Rogers, George Rogers, and sister-in-law, Peggy Rogers. At sixteen years of age, she met the boy across the road who became the love of her life. Being underage, Richard was given permission by her parents to marry. After three years, one child, a tiny apartment in Corning, Iowa, and, being taught to cook by her mother-in-law, the couple moved to St. Louis. In the next twelve years, three more children joined the family. As the children grew, Joan determined to continue her education by completing her GED. Homemaking, gardening, oil painting, and Sunday school teaching were her special interests and talents. The church and Christian Faith became the foundation of family life. An Avon lady knocked on their door and introduced them to a new church, beginning in a store front property. That church was the Church of the Nazarene, where they spent the next twenty-five years as faithful members. Their family life revolved around church activities. Each Sunday, the station wagon would be packed with neighborhood kids. Joan accepted the paid position of Day Care Director at the House Springs, Missouri Church of the Nazarene; a position she held for eight years. After the children left home, Joan and Richard became devout members of the Way of Life Ministries in St. Louis. Richard and Joan were ordained Elder and Deacon respectively. Visitation held Wednesday, August 5, 2020 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6300 Highway 30, Cedar Hill, MO 63016. Memorials can be made to any charity of your choice.
