Elizabeth Stanback Clark
June 29, 1953 - April 13, 2022
Elizabeth (Betsy) Stanback Clark On day thirteen of April, 2022, Betsy Clark, loving spouse and partner of Alicia Kay Pierce and mother of two children, passed away at the age of 68 in St. Louis, Missouri. Betsy was born on June 29, 1953 in Greenville, South Carolina to Alexander Bayard Clark, Jr. and Betty Emery Clark, both deceased. Her surviving siblings are Alexander Bayard Clark III (Teri), Sarah (Sally) Clark Boyd (Cam), and Raymond Emery Clark (Elizabeth). She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in business and a Master’s in Business Administration from Fontbonne University. She principally worked as a financial analyst for several hospitals in the St. Louis area. She is survived by her spouse, Alicia Pierce, and her two daughters, Natalie Elizabeth Clark and Jennifer Lynn Johnstone and five grandchildren, Samuel, Kaitlyn, Brandon, Jacob and Addison, and one great-grandchild, Danielle. Betsy had a kind, open and generous heart; she was beautiful inside and out, in so many ways. She was particularly generous to her grandchildren, remembering, in particular, where Betsy created and orchestrated a week-long summer camp for them (known as The Whimsy Tree) for many years at her cabin in the mountains of Tennessee. Each day was fully planned with activities. Betsy was a special mother and grandmother, always giving love and support and, in return, she received trust and adoration. Betsy and Alicia also loved adventures and challenges and found them everywhere, particularly in their travels and at their cabin. Betsy had the gift of seeing the possibility in everything and implementing solutions. Betsy made time for things that mattered to her—what she called “her projects”. She was adept in dreaming, and then with boundless energy in seeing her projects to completion. Whether it be her projects, her work, her church, or with home life, she was strong and determined, in a generous way. She was a wonderful hostess and her hospitality was gentle, warm and kind. She always had wonderful food, beverages, home decorations and inspired her family and many devoted friends with honest conversation. Simply, her presence was a gift to her family and to the world. She will be deeply missed. Betsy’s funeral will be held at Christ Church Cathedral, 1210 Locust Street, St. Louis, on April 20, 2022 beginning at 11:00 am. The officiant will be Betsy’s and Alicia’s priest and friend, the Very Reverend Kathie Adams-Shepherd. Betsy’s interment will take place at the Cathedral Chapel following the service. A reception will be held following the interment at Betsy’s and Alicia’s home and all are invited to attend. A memorial may be made to a charity of one’s own choice. In the end, Betsy was not cured of her disease, but she was released and delivered to her Heavenly Father, where there is no more grief or pain, but life everlasting. Our love goes with you! Chapel Hill Mortuary is assisting the family with the arrangements.
