Bernard Charles Stenger Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Stenger, Bernard, of Dittmer, Missouri, was born March 6, 1935 in Glennonville, Missouri to John and Mary (nee Fuemmeler) Stenger and entered into rest Monday, May 23, 2022, at his home in Dittmer, Missouri at the age of 87 years, 2 months, and 17 days. He is preceded in death by, his wife Joyce (nee Bernhardt) Stenger, both of his parents, his brother Adolph (Lucille) Stenger, and sister Teresa Reale. He is survived by his children, Amy (Donald) McClure, James (Sarah) Stenger, Robert (Caroline) Stenger, Julie (John) Knowlton, Mary-Teresa (Jason) Fletter, Emily (Bill) Hansen, Michael (Shelly) Stenger, and Daniel (Allison) Kasden, Twenty Grandchildren, Five Great-grandchildren, Five siblings, John (The late Nelva) Stenger, Mary (The late Urban) Teder, Genevieve (The late John) Siebert, Francis (The late Deanna) Stenger, and Sister Amelia Stenger along with numerous extended family and friends. Bernard “Ben/Bernie” was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, great grandpa, and friend. He was very invested in his family and church. He spent his life caring for others, spending many years as a respiratory therapist for SSM St. Mary’s Hospital. He was the 185th person to be licensed as a respiratory therapist in the country. He started the first respiratory therapy department in St. Louis, and the respiratory therapy teaching program at St. Mary’s (which is now a program at STLCC – Forest Park). He spent time teaching at the program prior to his retirement from the hospital in 1994. Ben was a perpetually positive person, he was everybody’s “Pop”, had a great sense of humor, and was always there with a smile and a hug. He was an avid gardener, do-it yourselfer, and treasured the little things in life. He will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
