Shirley May Casteel Shirley May Casteel, age 86, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026. She was born on April 22, 1939, in Rosine, Kentucky, to Hobart and Verda Mae (nee Probus) Swift. A gifted student, Shirley graduated as valedictorian of Horse Branch High School, a reflection of the determination and dedication that would characterize her throughout her life. Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose greatest joy was her family. She married Lawrence Ray Casteel of Hartford, Kentucky, and together they built a life centered on love, hard work, and lasting memories. In her professional life, Shirley was a trailblazer. She became the first female supervisor at Quickpoint Printing, where she was respected for her leadership, dedication, and strong work ethic. She was an auxiliary member of the High Ridge Elks Lodge, High Ridge Gun Club, and High Ridge Volunteer Fire Department and valued the friendships and community she found there. Shirley enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. She loved reading, playing bingo and especially cherished traveling with her close friends, Rich and Pauline Terry, sharing many memorable trips and laughter along the way. She also loved sewing and was an avid crafter, often creating handmade items for family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Oval Swift, Gova “ToJo” Swift, Wyman “Dime” Swift, Welby Swift, Hobart “Junior” Swift, and Thelma Skaggs. She is survived by her children: Larry Casteel (Jennifer), Doug Casteel (Susan), Ricky Casteel (Lisa), Cindy Walker (Eric), and Pam Kennon (David). She was a proud grandmother to Jamey Casteel, Rodney Casteel, Shelly Shirley, Ryan Walker, Colton Walker, Tori Kennon, Bryan “Alex” Kennon, Sara Evans, David Abner, Justin Abner, Karen Brock, Ryan Sorbello, and Christine Noto, and a cherished great-grandmother to 12 great-grandchildren. Shirley will be remembered for her strength, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and a friend to many. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6300 Highway 30, Cedar Hill, Missouri 63016. Funeral Ceremony will also be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill Mortuary. Interment will immediately follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Cedar Hill, Missouri.
