Marjorie "Margy" Lee Patterson

Marjorie “Margy” Lee Patterson, age 90, passed away peacefully January 6, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on March 27, 1934, in St. Louis to Edwin C. and Marjorie L. Taylor, Margy lived a vibrant, wholehearted life rooted in family, community, and creativity. Beloved wife of Donald Patterson, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and laughter. They built a rich life together in Kirkwood, raising their family and becoming pillars of their neighborhood. Margy was the devoted mother of Linda (Joe) Corley, Susanne (the late Bob) Griffin, Kevin (Jennifer) Patterson, and the late Michael Patterson. She was a dear sister of Doug (Tracy) Taylor; and dearest sister-in-law of Gayle Taylor. She was the proud and playful grandmother known affectionately as the "Rock and Roll Grandma"—always up for music, games, and making unforgettable memories. Her bond with her grandkids and great grandkids was unshakable and full love, laughter, and mischief. Margy was endlessly creative and giving. She spent countless hours knitting caps for Kids With Cancer, and shared her talents through her beloved craft booth at the Green Tree Festival. She never missed a chance to go antiquing, treasure hunting at auctions, or setting up her own antique sales. She and Don were staples of the Kirkwood parade scene, always at the heart of the neighborhood float with their Way Avenue friends, sharing laughs and joy. As a preschool teacher’s assistant, Girl Scout and Boy Scout leader, and ever-involved room mom, Margy touched the lives of many young people. Her warmth, patience, and joy made her a friend to all. Even after losing her sight in the last decade of her life, Margy’s spirit never dimmed—she continued to live with fierce independence and joy, never letting blindness hold her back. She and Don cherished time at their place in Florida, where kids and grandkids would gather, and the most memorable times were had with family and friends. They also treasured camping at their campground in Steelville—Straight Arrow. Whether she was traveling with friends, playing cards and games, or strumming her guitar (which she played throughout her life), Margy filled every space with joy. A longtime member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Kirkwood, Margy served as part of the Stephen Ministry, offering support and care to those in need. As an incredible wife, mom, grandma, and friend, Margy had that rare gift of making everyone feel welcome, seen, and special. She was just a neat person to be around—and everyone loved hanging out with her. Her love, laughter, and legacy will live on in all who knew her. Margy and Don were truly inseparable and are once again reunited in Glory. Their love story will continue in the hearts of their family and friends. A private ceremony was held by Margy's family to honor and celebrate her life.
