Katherine "Kathy" Derges

Katherine “Kathy” Derges, of Wildwood, Missouri, was born May 29, 1953 in St. Louis, Missouri to Virgil and Marilyn (nee Reidel) Spanos and entered into rest Saturday, June 1, 2024 in St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 71 years. She is preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Marilyn (nee Reidel) Spanos; her daughter, Laura Heydens; and her brother, Tom Spanos. She is survived by her husband, Mike Derges, her husband of 47 years; her children, Susan (Eric) Knight and Michelle (Nicholas) Simco; her grandchildren, William Heydens, Wesley Heydens, Skylar Knight, Eden Simco and Ashton Simco; her sister, Diane (Jim) Bertoluzzi; along with numerous other extended family and friends. Kathy, a loving wife, devoted mother, doting grandmother, and beloved sister, cherished every moment spent with her family, always bringing warmth and joy to their gatherings. She had a vibrant social life, enjoying time with her college sorority sisters of Alpha Sigma Alpha, with whom she shared many fond memories and lifelong friendships. Kathy loved bling, glitter, especially Christmas and setting up her gorgeous Christmas tree and making her superb leg of lamb dinner, with yellow rice and of course her special gravy. A talented crafter, Kathy was an excellent embroiderer and sewer, creating beautiful pieces that will be treasured forever. Her love for decorating rooms was evident in the stylish and welcoming spaces she created, reflecting her impeccable taste and creativity. Travel was a significant part of Kathy's life, and she especially loved taking cruises. She embarked on 11 memorable cruises, each journey adding to the treasure trove of beautiful memories she shared with her loved ones. A huge St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan, Kathy never missed a game and was known for her unwavering support of the team. Her enthusiasm for the sport was contagious and brought many joyful moments to those around her. In her leisure time, Kathy loved reading and playing video poker, enjoying both the solace of a good book and the excitement of the game. Her kindness, love, and dedication to her family and passions will be deeply missed but never forgotten. A Private Memorial Service was held on Friday, June 14, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at CHAPEL HILL MORTUARY, 10301 Big Bend Road, Kirkwood, Missouri 63122, immediately followed by inurnment.
