John "Jack" Chapman

John R. “Jack” Chapman, a lifelong resident of Webster Groves, passed away on June 18, 2016 from complications of heart failure. Husband of his beloved wife and best friend of 41 years, Ellen Beeson, Father of Eric Chapman, of Kansas City, and Andrew Chapman of Webster Groves, father-in-law to Alyssa, grandfather to Rhiannon and Flynn, brother of Susan Linden, Connie Chapman, Richard Chapman and Beth Cooper, uncle and grand uncle. He was the son of Robert and Diana (nee Welch) Chapman. Jack was active in the insurance industry as a producer at Bowersox Insurance Agency and formerly was a partner of a family insurance agency located in Webster Groves. One of the first Certified Insurance Counselors in Missouri, Jack was long time chairman of the Missouri Association of Insurance Agents Technical Committee, previously serving as chair of the Workers Compensation Technical Committee. Jack was appointed to serve on the Independent Insurance Agents of America’s National Commercial Lines Technical Committee. Jack was proud of his knowledge of insurance coverage, policy forms and authored numerous articles on insurance coverages. It was not unusual to hear him recite policy language from memory or sections of the Missouri Workers’ Compensation Act. Jack served as the Independent Insurance Agency representative to the Missouri’s Worker’s Compensation Determinations Review Board, having been appointed by three different governors. Jack served as the youngest President of the Webster Groves Chamber of Commerce. He was President of the Independent Insurance Agents of St. Louis and the Independent Insurance Agents of Missouri. He received association awards as Chairman of the Year, three times, Agent of the Year, and the E. Elwood Willard Award for long term distinguished service. Jack served the City of Webster Groves as a member of the Financial Advisory Committee. He was a long time member of the Webster Groves Lions Club. His father’s example had taught Jack that service back to one’s industry, community and others was an obligation, one that he enjoyed. Visitation will be held Saturday, July 2, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 10301 Big Bend Road, Kirkwood, 63122. Service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Having served in the US Navy as an air traffic controller, Jack’s interment is at Jefferson Barracks. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Places for People, 4130 Lindell Blvd, St. Louis, Missouri 63108.
