John R. Berkery

John R. Berkery, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2025 at age 75 with his loving family surrounding him. Beloved son of the late Doris and Thomas F. Berkery; devoted father of Thomas, Brendan, Nicholas, and Megan Berkery; loving brother of Thomas (Nancy) Berkery, Patricia (Mike) Moran, and Danny Berkery; cherished uncle of Danielle (Erik) Zimmerman, Justin (Margaret) Moran, Christina (Justin) Heilig, Amanda (Jason) Franklin, and Matthew (LeeAn) Kubicek. Born in New York City on January 24, 1950, John was a true New Yorker and grew up appreciating his Italian and Irish heritage. He received his Bachelor's in English Literature from Manhattan College. In 1993, he moved to Clayton, Missouri and later the Central West End. He quickly became a devoted St. Louisan and loved the community around him. With his love of the arts, John was a member of the St. Louis Art Museum, St. Louis Symphony, St. Louis Zoo, and the Missouri Botanical Gardens. He was the ultimate social butterfly and loved dining out and visiting the local bars, where everyone knew his name. He volunteered at the Mercy Oncology Department with patients receiving chemotherapy. He truly had a heart to serve others. John loved golfing, and he could usually be found on the greens every Saturday morning striving for that hole in one! As a sportsman, he became a huge St. Louis Blues and Cardinals fan and loved attending the games and cheering them on with his kids. In his spare time, he liked reading and his favorites were mysteries, thrillers, and historical fiction. He also enjoyed relaxing with a good old-time British murder mystery. . As a family man, John looked forward to traveling with his kids and going on vacations, some of their favorite trips were to Florida, South Carolina, and Vermont. Every summer they traveled to Italy to visit family, as well as trips throughout the year to New York. He also traveled to more than 70 other countries for work, and his kids looked forward to the neat gifts he would bring back for them. John was the absolute perfect example of the nicest guy, unless you tried to take advantage of him, then it was game on; no messing with him. He would do anything for anyone, and everyone loved him. He was such a sweetheart and always concerned for others. John will be remembered for his loving and caring nature, as well as his great sense of humor. Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the American Cancer Society.
