Georgette Volk

Volk-Gohl, Georgette March 19, 1920-November 7, 2013 Georgette, a testament to a life lived loving the Lord. She was born Georgette Strehle on March 19, 1920 in Webster Groves Mo. She had one younger brother, Earl who went to be with the Lord several years ago and her sister Maxine. Georgette, at age 26, married Herbert Joseph Volk and eventually moved to Oakville Mo. In March 1954 Georgette and Herbert adopted their only child, Barbara Maxine Volk. Georgette lost Herbert to a sudden illness and was widowed until she married William (Bill) Woerner Gohl in October of 1997. Both Georgette and William had known each other all of their lives having grown up and gone to school in the same town. Georgette had worked in the dental field as a dental assistant and had a long career in banking. She retired from Bank of America. Her social life was full as she volunteered to work in many groups while raising Barbara. She was active in PTA, Girl Scouts, various musical organizations but devoted most of her time to doing work within the Church. She taught many classes at her church and was involved in several ministries at one time or another throughout her active adult life. She loved the Lord! Georgette was an accomplished musician who played the cello and piano. She loved attending the St. Louis Municipal Opera. Her hobbies were gardening, outdoors camping and water skiing/swimming. She always put 100% effort into her many activities and did everything with a zeal for life. As she matured in life, she took on the role as caregiver for more than one disabled and elderly relative, caring for their every need until they day they passed away. Georgette gave more to others than to herself. She was a devoted mother to Barbara and a wonderful wife to Bill, taking time to always attend to her needs. As she now has leaped into the arms of our Lord and Savior, we celebrate her long and devoted life. She will certainly be missed, however; we know we will see her again when we join her in Heaven. She leaves behind her devoted husband Bill, her devoted daughter Barbara, her son-in-law Mark and many nieces and nephews, a sister and brothers-in-law. Services: Visitation: Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013, 3-7 p.m. at Oak Hill Funeral Home, 10301 Big Bend Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63122.
