Edith Irene Fischer

Edith Irene Fischer was born January 6, 1919 to Zephy Sarah and Elijah Richard Reed in Prescot Arkansas. She was the second born of eight children and was the last of the eight siblings to pass into eternal glory on June 6, 2014. She was a devoted mother to all her children, and a caring and involved grandmother to twenty-five grandchildren. She has numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren to continue the family legacy forward. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Daniel G. Fischer in 1995, and a daughter Margie Jean Reider June of 2012. She was a devoted Sunday school teacher for many years at St. Martin's United Church of Christ; she was an active member of Eastern Star at the Hillsboro chapter where she was Worthy Matron and was a supportive wife at Moolah Temple as Dr. Fischer was an active member and participated in the music branch, (Hayshakers) of the order. She is survived by her children June Manestar (Joe), Charlie Reider son-in-law, Daniel R. Fischer, William G. Fischer (Lisa), Kathy Smith (John), and Laura May (Rod). Edith always loved people, she was happy to see everyone that she visited or who stopped by to see her. She was always happy to welcome friends, relatives and especially her children and grandchildren into her home. She called everyone "Babe" with a big smile and a hug that was given with sincere joy. We are grateful and appreciative for the many kind, caring and compassionate caregivers and nurses at Woodmont Health Center. We thank each of them for all they did the past seven years to provide Edith with fun activities, love and the wonderful care and attention they gave to her. She called many of them "babe" as well! There will be a memorial service Saturday, June 21 at St. Martin's United Church of Christ in Dittmer, Missouri. Reverend Ron Gates, from Lynnville, Indiana will officiate the service. Visitation is at noon with the service beginning at 1:00. There will be a gathering for family and friends following the service at Janese Henry's, 3740 Grandel Square in St. Louis, Missouri. In Edith's memory please donate to the music or Sunday School program at a church of your choosing. If you need a suggestion consider St. Martin's in Dittmer or St. Matthews in Lynnville, Indiana.
