Dolores B Gregory

Gregory, Dolores (nee Benson), of High Ridge, Missouri, was born September 25, 1930 in Conquest, Saskatchewan, Canada, to John and Dorothy (nee Lee) Benson and entered into rest Sunday, January 21, 2024 in Fenton, Missouri at the age of 93 years. She is preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Earl Gregory, and her parents. She is survived by her children James Yarbrough, Robert (Bernadine) Yarbrough, Jane (Brian) Rea, Dan (Adrianne Sloan) Yarbrough, and Joyce (Seamus Callaghan) Weckl; grandchildren Luke (Aubrey) Yarbrough, Finn (Kate) Yarbrough, Micah (Cecily) Yarbrough, Bryce (Jessica) Rea, Clint Rea, Claire Weckl, and Ulysses Yarbrough; step-daughter Mary (David) Whitmore; step-grandchildren Nathaniel (Kristen) Whitmore, Brandon (Kristen) Whitmore, and Jordan Whitmore; and great-grandchildren along with numerous other extended family and friends. Dolores was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. For years she drove the R-1 bookmobile, serving as its librarian and painfully confirming that its heater was leaking carbon monoxide. She was long the school secretary at House Springs Elementary where her commitment to service and sense of humor endeared her to kids and colleagues alike. She was a fixture for years as a Sunday school teacher for children (Fellowship Baptist, High Ridge) and later a ladies class (First Baptist, House Springs). Her children remember her love for gardening and canning, her artistic ability, her passion for reading which she passed on to all her children so they could read well before beginning school, her addiction to KMOX radio, and her loyalty to the St. Louis Cardinals. In baseball as in much else, she understood the game within the game. In life’s joys and sorrows, she persevered. She stood by her friends like Elsie Kalafatich, her beloved roommate at Delmar Gardens. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 10:00 AM at CHAPEL HILL MORTUARY, 6300 Highway 30, Cedar Hill, MO 63016. Interment will immediately follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Cedar Hill, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made on behalf of Dolores Gregory to First Baptist Church, House Springs, MO 63051.
