Carol A. Fruend

Fruend, Carol A., of Ladue, Missouri, was born January 10, 1940, in Saint Louis, Missouri, to James and Ruth (nee Sieving) McClanahan, and entered into rest, Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at her residence in St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of 77 years, 3 months, and 2 days. She is preceded in death by her parents, She is survived by: Her husband, Robert Fruend, of St. Louis, Missouri, one (1) son, Robert (Holly) Fruend, Jr., of St. Louis, Missouri, two (2) grandchildren, Robert III “Trey” and Andrew, one (1) sister, Mary (Don) Thuss of Webster Groves, Missouri, mother in law, Elsie Fruend, brother in law, Ronald Fruend, nephews, John (Carmen) Thuss, Jim (Melody) Thuss, Todd (Kristen) Fruend, Brad (Tiffany) Fruend, Jason Fruend, Ian (Morgan) Fruend, and many other relatives and friends. Carol McClanahan and Bob Fruend were married in 1961. Carol’s life has always expressed her love for children. She started teaching in Michigan and returned to St. Louis to teach at Concord Lutheran School and volunteering as youth counselor as well as tutoring children in reading. Carol served on the board of the Special Lutheran Schools and the Lutheran High School Association, where she was Treasurer. During this time in St. Louis, they enjoyed participating in the support of the Lutheran High School Dinner Auctions. In 1989 Carol and Bob moved to Galveston, Texas where she took an active role in the community and the Ronald McDonald House. She became President of the Ronald McDonald House and was named in 2000 as the recipient of the Jefferson Award by the City of Houston, Texas. The Jefferson Award was started by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy to recognize contributions of citizens for community service. Since moving back to St. Louis, Carol has been active at the local Ronald McDonald House, especially with the Christmas Shop where families can shop at no cost for their loved ones. Carol loved spending time with grandsons Trey and Andrew and was proud of the accomplishments of son Rob, who is the CEO of the Regional Health Commission. Her daughter-in-law Holly had been an inspiration to her. She is fondly remembered and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
