Benny Lee Smith Sr.

Benny Lee Smith Sr., aka “The Colonel,” “Benny Bear,” “Babe,” “Bodacious Benny,” of Dittmer, Missouri, was born October 9, 1949 in St. Louis, Missouri to James Walter and Lucinda (nee Jones) Smith and entered into rest Sunday, June 2, 2024 at the age of 74 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Lucinda (nee Jones) Smith and his siblings, Tex, Donnie, Darlene, Brenda, Beverly, and Randy. He is survived by his loving wife, Bonita (nee Wiseman) Smith; children, Christina (Jimmy), Alvita, Benny Jr., Caroline (Jason), Angela (Sudhi), Robert (Laura), Joah (Shelene), and Jonathan “Jonny” (Lisa); grandchildren, Norah, Jay, Jasper, Zella, Christopher, Meriah, Ashley, Jessica, Samantha, Jordyn, Elizabeth, Noel, and Sam; 6 great-grandchildren; brother, Johnny; along with numerous other extended family and friends. Benny was a loving husband who spent 32 wonderful years with his beloved wife, Bonita, making her dreams come true with his unwavering dedication and love. Known for his hard work, Benny retired after 36 years at Chrysler and continued his industrious spirit by starting a lawn mowing business for fun, serving both commercial businesses and individuals. For 16 years, he drove a bus on two routes for Brennan Woods Elementary School and Woodridge Middle School, where he was cherished by the children for his kind and caring nature. Benny's vibrant personality shone through in his love for flea markets and his unique flair as an auctioneer. His and Bonita’s relationship was electric and sparkling, and he will always be remembered as a truly remarkable and cherished individual. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6300 Highway 30, Cedar Hill, MO 63016. Funeral Ceremony will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Hill Mortuary in Cedar Hill, MO. Interment will immediately follow St. Martin’s United Church Cemetery in Dittmer, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Bonita Smith in honor of Benny to help the family cover funeral expenses during this difficult time.
