Pat Copeland

Patsy Sue Copeland Surrounded by her loving family, Pat passed away peacefully on February 6, 2019, at the age of 81, after a brief battle with cancer. Born in Gideon, Missouri to the late Lester and Ida May Lawrence, she was the devoted wife of more than 36 years to the late Robert W. Copeland, the beloved mother of Ken (Laurie), Barry (Lisa), and Brad (Michelle), and the adoring Grammy of Daniel (Megan), Patrick, David (Molly), James, Blake, Will, Brandon, Jessica and Beth Copeland. Pat was the youngest of 11 siblings including the late Kermit (Jenny), Inez (Johnny), Jim (Lou), Carrie (Claude), Norman (Joyce), and Fred (Marilou). She is survived by her sisters, Marilyn, Leta (Lindsay - deceased) and Wanda (Richard - deceased). She graduated from Gideon High School where she was a majorette and Miss Gideon. She received a scholarship to nurses training at Missouri Baptist Hospital and after graduating worked as an OR nurse. At Third Baptist Church, where she was a long time member, she met the love of her life, Bob Copeland. They married in 1958. After raising her three boys, she returned to nursing as a school nurse and health teacher at Brentwood High School. Pat was known for her amazing decorations for numerous Brentwood proms. She would later return to school and receive her masters degree from Webster University. Pat’s outgoing and positive attitude was contagious. A hands on go-getter with many hobbies, she enjoyed jewelry making, Indian art, tennis, gardening, sewing, entertaining, hunting & fishing, bridge, square dancing, travel and painting. She was never afraid of hard work or tackling challenging tasks. Around the house, she took it upon herself to shingle the roof, retile the floors, paint pretty much the entire house, and even install and repair plumbing. At the farm, where she liked to fish and hunt, she also found time to run the tractor, plant pecan trees, clear brush, and put in vegetable gardens. Pat adored her family and delighted in the many summer family vacations to Destin, Florida and occasionally more adventurous vacations like rock-hounding out West and a self-guided canoeing trip in the Canadian wilderness. She had a relentless positive spirit, an always cheerful and outgoing disposition, and a servant’s loving heart. She will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her. Services will be Saturday morning, February 9. Visitation 10:00 am followed by the service at 10:30 am, both at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 10301 Big Bend Road, 63122. Lunch reception immediately following the services.
