Julie Faye Young

Julie Faye Young passed away unexpectedly on July 14, 2022. She was the younger daughter of Ruth and Orville Young. Julie was born in Peoria, Illinois on September 20, 1957 and spent her childhood in Washington, Illinois. She attended the University of Illinois, Champaign / Urbana campus where she formed many enduring friendships and met her future husband James W. Holaday, Jr. In times of personal crisis, her family and friends sought her compassionate insight. She would perceptively listen without judgment or interruption before offering trustworthy counsel. Julie's family and friends admired her passions for intelligent, engaging conversations; the performing arts; and witty sparring while discussing politics. Her wit was keen, but she kept it in check, except when privately directing it toward her husband. Julie had many leisure pursuits. She excelled at counted cross stitch replicas of fine art. Her home library had several hundred volumes. International travel fulfilled her quest to experience and better understand different cultures. Her palate was exquisite and she could elegantly verbalize taste nuances of fine dining experiences. For several years Julie volunteered as a mentor and instructor for those learning English as a second language or preparing to become US citizens. She relished classic British BBC dramas, the early films of Michael Douglas and projects of British actor David Tennant. Julie often discussed her appreciation of fine jewelry with her many friends, as her baffled husband passively listened. As an office management consultant, Julie created tailored recommendations to the office staff of small professional practices. Productivity, efficiency, and profitability often improved as a result of her efforts. However, she failed to instill any logic or order to her husband's home office as a result of his stubbornness. Later in life, Julie's genetic predisposition for severe lipedema symptoms was expressed. She stoically endured increasing pain, sensitivity to room temperature, and loss of mobility. Julie is survived by her husband James Holaday (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania); sister Jemma Barry (Washington, Illinois); brother-in-law John Holaday (Lake Zurich, Illinois); several cousins; five nieces and nephews; five great nieces and nephews; and one great-great niece and great-great nephew. No formal memorial services are planned. In lieu of flowers, Julie's family suggests increasing one's knowledge of lipedema (e.g., The Lipedema Foundation, www.lipedema.org).
