Edwin T. Waltemath

Waltemath, Edwin T., of St. Louis, Missouri, was born January 18, 1930 in Saint Louis, Missouri, to Earl and Mildred (nee Sanger) Waltemath, and passed peacefully into the hands of the Lord, surrounded by his loving family after having shown his strength and courage as he struggled with his long illness on Sunday, July 3, 2016, at St. Anthony’s, in St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of 86 years, 5 months and 15 days. He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Mildred (nee Sanger) Waltemath, Siblings Richard G. Waltemath, and Donna L. Rudolph. He is survived by, His beloved wife of 57 years, Virginia (nee Buford) Waltemath, married June 20, 1959, in Flat River, Missouri. Three (3) children, Michele Arleen Ardrey, Melanie Elise Nesser (Monte), Faith Allison Grayson. five (5) grandchildren, Elise Joan Buford (Clayton) Oloteo, David Hawthorne Waltemath Ardrey, Mattea Mirelle Nesser, Hannah Taylor Grayson, Sarah Nicole Grayson as well as many other cousins nieces, nephews and dear friends. Edwin was a member of Prince of Peace, United Church of Christ in South County, St. Louis, Missouri. In earlier years Edwin loved spending his time stock car racing, boating, skiing, and horseback riding. He was on the All Army Rifle Team during his service in the Army. Edwin was a 43 year retired Supervisor of Laclede Gas Company. His management skills were well known and he served in many capacities in civic endeavors. These included: past president of the Lemay Optimist Club, managing successful campaigns for Missouri State Senators and others, past president of Prince of Peace, UCC church council, a Mason, member of the Scottish Rite, and Shriner (the Clown Unit). He liked helping people, was a very devoted family man, and enjoyed spending time with his family. He is fondly remembered for his quick and sharp wit, as well as great stories from his adventuresome life. He loved to joke, enjoyed playing volleyball with the Senior Olympics, was an avid Cardinal Baseball Fan, and a very social person. We could go on and on, but at the end of the day he led by example, and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 7, 2016, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 10301 Big Bend Road, Kirkwood, Missouri 63122. Friday, July 8, 2016 a visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Prince of Peace, United Church of Christ located at 4966 Towne South Road, St. Louis, Missouri 63128. A Procession from the Service will begin at 12:00 p.m. to Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery with a military service and honors at 12:30 p.m. Memorials can be made to Prince of Peace United Church of Christ, and/or Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 4400 Clayton Avenue, St. Louis, Missouri 63110.
